Glitch City / About

History

Glitch City was conceived in mid-2007 as a source of output for noise artists Koindozer and Klaptrap. The name "Glitch City" comes from a fan-named error found in the Pokémon Red & Blue video games.
Glitch City grew over the months to include other artists that Koindozer and Klaptrap have met on the internet, as well as friends from "real life". Glitch City's video game imagery and influence also lead to its expansion into the 8-bit/chiptune/bitpop genres.
Glitch City is currently using it's third web layout.

Music

Glitch City started with an interest in glitches and errors and applying them to music, using electronic music software to create glitch sounds that the software was not intended to create. The exploration of glitches and noise is often contrary to established concepts of music and questions the purpose of music.
The concepts behind the "plunderphonics" genre are also of importance to Glitch City. Sampling can take sounds from other songs or pieces and applies them to new contexts or alters their original meaning. Sampling is a core technique used by many Glitch City artists. These artists sample other musicians' songs that have inspired them and use them to create new compositions, taking their own experiences with other people's music and applying them to their own music. Sampling can also be used to critique the original piece of music, if the sample is taken from music that the sampling artist does not like.
Glitch City does not try to limit itself in terms of musical genres or styles, however it leans towards experimental music and electronic music in particular.
